Conflicts of Interest

Mar 31, 2021

On COI #90, Kyle breaks down some good news for Americans’ individual liberty. The 6th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled against the ‘bump-stock ban’ regulation the DoJ adopted under Trump. The ruling also limits regulators' ability to reinterpret criminal law. New York passed a law that legalizes cannabis. However, it will likely be years before New Yorkers can buy weed legally. NY City ended qualified immunity for police officers. The doctrine allows police to get away with violent crimes.

The US-Chinese relations are increasingly confrontational. While the US is working with partners in Europe to isolate China, the US hostile policy towards Iran and Russia is driving them into deeper ties with China. Biden is attempting to prevent China from becoming a world leader, but his policy is helping to put China into that position.

Last month, a military government overthrew the government in Myanmar. The US has been involved in sanctioning and condemning the coup. The coup leaders are increasingly using deadly force deadly against protesters. The US may have a role in helping to mediate a peaceful solution, however, we should resist intervening in the conflict.
